I *heart* you--Pure Innocence style (CPS #152)

Here's my take on this weeks CPS sketch (Sketch #152).  I just got a big old package of stamps from My Favorite Things and I'm totally in LOVE with these new Pure Innocence images.

Bellarific Birthday Friday

This week's theme for Bellarific Friday on  the Stamping Bella blog was "Birthday" so I decided to get my Partygirlabella stamp inky (it's been brand new in the package for years I think).  In fact I didn't even know I owned this stamp until I was looking through my Bella stamps to determine what stamp I wanted to use!! (insert embarrased smilie here).

I coloured the image using Copic markers.  I first selected my paper (Scenic Route) and then picked my markers to match the bright colours in the paper.  Usually I work the other way around.  I usually colour my images and then try to figure out what I have in my stash to match them up with.  Because this image is large and I didn't want this giant white mat on my card I decided to cut around her and then mount onto a piece of cardstock that I embossed with my Cuttlebug.

Here's my tip of the day:  The "Let's Party" on the sticker that I used for the sentiment wasn't quite bright enough for the embossed cardstock so I took a bright green Copic Marker and coloured in the words.  Now it's a much closer match and a great way to customize your embellishments.

A quick and easy card: With Sympathy

Here's a quick and easy sympathy card I made using some layered stamping. 

In order to achieve this look you will need two (or more) inks from the same colour family in different shades.  For this card I used Versafine Grey ink and Versafine black ink.

You'll want to start stamping with the lightest colour ink to create the background images and then stamp in the darker inks on top.

Woah Nellie! Card Patterns number 48

While I was cleaning out my scrapbooking bag on the weekend, I came across some Sugar Nellie images that I had stamped and coloured a LONG time ago when I went over to stamp at my friend Lesley's place.  I love some of the Sugar Nellie images and I wish I could find a source for them in North America (if you know of any, please let me know!!)

I used this week's sketch number 48 from the Card Patterns blog (flipped it counter clockwise) to make a fun Valentine's day card with lots of hearts and sparkle.

Hey Chick!

I love to make shaped cards, so when I pulled out my Sweet Spring stamp set (Cornish Heritage Farms) and saw the chick stamps, an egg shape came to mind.

To make the egg shaped card, I found an Easter egg colouring book sheet on the internet, printed it out to the size I wanted and cut it out.  Then I folded a piece of cardstock in half and placed the egg template overlapping the folded edge to leave a few inches of fold on the left hand side.  I then used the same template to cut out the entire egg out of distressed Basic Grey cardstock and adhere it on top of the card base.  To make the card stand I trimmed a small portion of the card off the bottom.

Bellarific Friday: Twinchie challenge

This week's Stamping Bella blog challenge was "Twinchies".  Just in case you haven't heard the term before it refers to a two inch by two inch "canvas" on which to create.  For my card I decided to stamp four different Ketto stamps onto each of four "twinchies".  Because of the size, my card layout was limited so I opted for a square card (I think it's 5.5" x 5.5"---I don't have a ruler handy!!) with my stamped panels in the center.

I have a bit of a secret to share....I wasn't too happy with how some of colours (of Copic markers) matched the papers I selected.  I normally colour my images first and then pick papers etc. but in this case I had to chose my patterned paper first so that I could match four images to it.  In order to cover up my screw ups disguise how some of the colours matched I simply added some Crystal Stickles over the colours I didn't like.  Then I just added more Stickles to the other images as accents.  So I guess my designer tip of the day is that glitter can be your friend LOL!

CPS 150....Retro valentine

Ugghh, I have been working on this card since the CPS sketch number 150 was posted last Sunday.  I had a vision of doing something retro-y inspired with my new Domestic Love stamp set (Cornish Heritage Farms) and the new Basic Grey line, but boy oh boy was it a challenge when I sat down to work on it.  I finally managed to give up and settle  finish the card after pushing the image and embellishments around for a few days.

I ended up flipping the sketch to the right.  It's also difficult to see but the image of the couple was heat embossed in red glitter powder.

My first Stamping Bella Ketto card

A while ago I purchased a bunch of Stamping Bella stamps including several of the new Ketto line.  I love their whimsical feel.

I completed this card for a Bella challenge over on Splitcoaststampers.  The challenge was to create a winter themed card using a Bella stamp and adding some distressing.  Since I didn't have a true winter Bella stamp, I took "Agnes" ketto and "Winterized" her by using Basic Grey Eskimo kisses paper and adding some snowflake elements.  I used one of the "Sparkle" stamps from the Ketto line to add to the stamped portion and the I added lots of sparkle with Stickles to give that winter feel. 

I'm still not sure whether I want to add any embellishments but I was thinking some kind of snowflake element on the left hand side.  If I decide to change it, I'll post the revised card.

There are times when love sucks (and so does the weather today!)

It's a dark and blah Sunday here so I'll be spending the day puttering around the house, doing some housework and perhaps some stamping.  I'm not sure I'll be vacuuming today but here's a card I made recently with the All Things Considered Domestic Love set from Cornish Heritage Farms.  It's a super fun set with a retro feel.  I have a few other cards to share in the future with this set.

This card uses the new Basic Grey Origins line and I just created texture on the card using some different punches, folding and embossing.

A wintery hello

Like most Canadians, I was raised on the ice----I've been ice skating since I was about two years old and even taught pre-school skating a few years ago. 

As soon as I saw this skate stamp from the Shady Tree Studio line at Cornish Heritage Farms, I knew it would find it's way into my shopping cart. 

On this card, there is no patterned paper (I seem to be doing a lot more of that these days!!).  I used the Swirling Snowflake backgrounder stamp and heat embossed with glittery embossing powder.  I did a bunch of distressing on the card and added a strip of Cuttlebug embossed cardstock.

Cupcakes make everything better!

As I mentioned below on the balloon card I posted I bought some Verve Stamps a while ago (like we're talking MONTHS and MONTHS) and pulled them out recently to play with. 

This week over at Splitcoaststampers, Verve has posted a few challenges in thier Member board as a prelude to their release party this Friday night.  I've been working on the challenges this week and this is the card I created based on the sketch challenge.

I flipped the sketch to the right and then took a bit of creative licence with the placement and size of the scalloped square but I love how it turned out.  This card uses the Cupcake Affair set from Verve Stamps and scraps of American Crafts Letterbox paper that I have sitting on my table. 

Just as an aside, you'll probably notice that I've been using the same papers on a number of my cards.  Well I have two excuses....first of all I'm trying to keep my scraps to a minimum and secondly I'm currently crafting at my kitchen table while my daughter has her naps in her play yard.  Our upstairs is a lot cooler during the winter so Alyssa and I spend our days on the main floor.  I'll try to mix up the posts so you don't get bored of the same papers LOL!

Merry Monday!!

Here's another slightly late (or really early for next year---depending on how you look at it) Christmas card that I created.

I have this on going obsession with white stamping/embossing on kraft cardstock and when I received the Swirling Snowflakes backgrounder from Cornish Heritage Farms I just *knew* that I would be trying out that combo again.

I heat embossed the backgrounder with white opaque embossing powder onto kraft cardstock. I used my bracket shaped Spellbinder die to cut out the embossed cardstock and then matted it onto hand cut white cardstock. The card was finished off with a red poinsettia, snowflake, button and ribbon all from my stash.

CPS #148- Welcome Spring

Wow, can you believe THREE posts so far this week LOL!!

It's been a cold and snowy here the last several days, so how better to feel warm than working on some spring cards?

This is based on this week's CPS sketch #148.

The entire card was paper peiced using American Crafts Letterbox paper.  I'm usually not a huge fan of American crafts because I have a hard time using it but this line is gorgeous!!  And the best part is I got the entire package of it (60 sheets in total) at my local Winner's store for only $9.99!!  Those are the same packages that sell at Micheals for $30!!

The stamps are from three different Kim Hughes sets from Cornish Heritage Farms.

Getting Sketchy (#19)

Over the past several months I've discovered several new card sketch blogs that I'll definitely be playing along with this year.

This card is based on Sketch #19 from Get Sketchy. This is a rare cardstock only card from me but look how AMAZING a paper you can create with the Swirling Snowflake backgrounder stamp (Cornish Heritage Farms). I heat embossed in white powder on both the blue and burgandy cardstock to make my own paper. The card was then embellished with a poinsettia/snowflake and some printed ribbon with the sentiment on it.

Well, it's the New Year and I'm officially back!! I just received a huge new box of stamps from Cornish Heritage Farms and there are some fun releases coming up for February.
